The town of Tiburon sits at the end of
the Tiburon Peninsula which reaches into the San Francisco Bay. The name
comes from the Spanish word meaning "shark" and was originally the terminus
for the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. Today the town is primarily a
commuter and tourist town, with visitors arriving from the Bay Ferry service
and by automobile over the Golden Gate Bridge. Known for its picturesque
streets, unusual arts and crafts shops, galleries and restaurants, it makes
for a great day trip or a great starting point for a visit to Angel Island
by ferry. The former train right-of-way has been converted to part of the
San Francisco Bay Trail used by hikers and cyclists.
